Friends WL Status revoked

Hi, I was trying to get my friends to join me on the server.
The friend I am talking about, did me the favour to apply but then took a longer break from playing for rl reasons.
Now today he messaged me and asked me if I wanted to play. Turns out, his WL status has been revoked due to inactivity for more than 3 month.
I think thats just a bit harsh, having someone go through all this work and wating again. I get that the WL is for filtering out the bad eggs in the player base.
But honestly, what is revoking the WL status due to inactivity good for?
