This is a comprehensive post outlining some of the suggestions I've accumulated so far about the side jobs. Full disclosure, I haven't tried all of them, however I have done most quite a bit by now.
First, concerns regarding payment.
Some jobs, like the 24/7 restocking, pay in cash, others pay to your bank account; this needs to be uniformed to be either all in one or the other, a split like it is now does not make a whole lot of sense.
Jobs such as the mail delivery pay "by mileage" - i.e., the farther away your next location is, the more you get. While a great idea on paper, wait until you get paid literally 0 because it just so happened that the next location was 50 meters away from the last one. Fun! There should be a minimum "flat fee" for each delivery in jobs where that's the case.
I would also really enjoy it if sticking to the same job over a period of time would give a person extra pay for "loyalty".
Second, the "gameplay loop".
Some jobs, like the mail delivery, have a route with a finite number of destinations, after which the player needs to return the truck back to depot. Other jobs, like the 24/7 restocking (again), have a technically infinite number of destinations of random stores to restock. If there is a limit for restocking, I must've never hit it somehow.
Regardless, this should be uniformed so all jobs have a finite number of predetermined delivery locations, which are picked out of a pool when the job is started, requiring one to go back to the depot and then take another truck if they wish to continue onto another route.
Ideally, instead of being told which point to go to next, they should just see all of them at once, giving the player the opportunity to build their own hopefully optimal route on the fly to handle all of the points.
Completing routes consecutively for the same side job should reward the player with extra pay, the more routes you do in a row - the more you get at the end of each one. There should, of course, be a cap on how much one can earn this way.
Third, quality of life stuff.
There should be public garages near each of the side job locations; while there are some that have garages close, jobs like the restocking are located at the docks where the nearest garage is genuinely more than a kilometer away. I don't imagine a whole lot of people drive their personal vehicles to those locations, however it would still be very beneficial for those who do.
I sincerely hope that these will be useful, IMO it's high time the side jobs were looked at and improved.
