Bullet projectiles added to evidence

Suggestion Description:

When PD gathers evidence from a crime scene, add bullet projectiles that hit walls/cars/the ground/etc. as evidence that can be gathered. Have the identifiers match to casings as well as the gun itself.

Reason:

When you shoot from a car, casings don't show up. Allowing for bullet projectiles to be found adds another dimension to evidence gathering and building a case for officers. It also counteracts if people do/don't shoot from a car since GSR tests aren't always going to be positive, it helps officers that put in the effort to gather evidence and document a scene to back the charge the are/aren't pressing.

    As a member of cid, I’m against this. Not until we have a different form of gathering evidence, like being able to place a visible marker or having the casing show a unique marker when looking at it, so that identifier can be matched up with the report so you can prove exactly what location the casing was found. The suggestion your makijg seems like we will have double the work. We can retrieve casings shot from cars most of the time

    They do show up. They float.

    I've seen them.

    But if bullets are going to be used to identify weapons, I don't think casings should have serial numbers

    Just the caliber.
